Most Popular Tire Sizes for the Honda Shadow VT750

Making the change from stock tires to aftermarket tires makes all the difference in handling and even the look and feel of the bike. If you want a tire that looks skinnier than stock, or maybe wider you will find the size and a description of how it fits on both the stock and relaced rims here. At the bottom you will find a list of popular tire brands including available white wall options.

VT750DC – Spirit (Chain Drive)

The stock front rim size is 19″ while the rear rim size is 15″.

Front:

100/90-H19 fr (this tire is skinnier than the stock size, available with white walls, great for that bobber style front end especially with the front fender removed.)

110/80-H19 fr (This is the stock tire size)

110/90-H19 fr (This is the most common stock replacement size for Metzler and Avon)

120/70-H19 fr (This tire is shorter and wider than tire giving that fat tire look, fender clearance will need to be checked with this tire)

90/90-H21 fr (Use this tire if you have relaced your front rim to a 21″ rim)

Rear:

The stock rear rim is 3.5 inches wide, a VTX rear rim size is 4.5 inches wide.

160/80-H15 rr – This is the stock tire size on the rear rim. This tire is 128mm tall based on its 80% aspect ratio of the 160mm width. This tire is too narrow for the VTX rim.

170/80-B15 rr – This tire is a popular upgrade to the stock tire on the stock rim. Surprisingly this tire actually looks wider than the 180 on the stock rim (note that this is the stock tire size for the VTX with a spoke rim). This tire is 136mm tall based on its 80% aspect ratio of the 170mm width.

180/70-H15 rr – This tire has a wider width and lower height than the 170, and is quite common on the stock rim to get a few mm wider rear tire. This tire also looks great on the VTX rim as well. Due to its smaller aspect ratio of 70% this tire is only 126mm tall giving it a lower profile look which is popular among many riders.

200/70-H15 rr – This tire technically will fit on a stock rim but it will look terrible and is potentially unsafe because it could break the bead when going around corners. This tire is best used only after performing the VTX rim relace. Note that this tire will be incredibly tall which will affect gearing (acceleration) and cornering (bike will tend to self right itself). This tire is 140mm tall based on its 70% aspect ratio of the 200mm width. This tire size is incredibly popular with the VTX rim mod.

Note that each of these tires will only gain a few millimeters of width over stock.

VT750C2 – Spirit (Shaft Drive)

The stock front rim size is 21″ while the rear rim size is 15″.

Front:

90/90-H21 fr (This is the stock tire size)

MH90-21 fr – The equivalent to 80/90 sized tire, this tire may be too narrow to fit on the stock rim.

120/70-21 – This tire is taller and wider than the stock tire size, it may be too wide for the stock rim, and it may have fender clearance issues that cause rubbing.

VT750CD/C/C2B – ACE/ AERO / Phantom

The stock front rim size is 17″ while the rear rim size is 15″.

Front:

120/80-17 fr – This tire is very similar to the stock tire size, however, it is a little bit shorter in height, it is the same width so it will have a flatter appearance.

130/70-17 fr – This tire is quite a bit wider than the stock width and may start to see clearance issues on the sides, however, it is shorter in height than the stock tire size and may cause minor speedo issues.

130/80-17 fr – This tire is wider than stock and almost as tall.

*Known Issues for the ACE (the aero does not seem to have the fitment issues of the ace):
1. the difference in size can make your speedo slightly off by 1 or 2mph, you can safely ignore this or have your speedo re-calibrated by dealer or qualified reputable mechanic shop.
2. this over sized tire will cause rubbing/clearance issues which can be fixed by:
a. Removing the fender brace and reinstalling the fender without it (this will cause it to vibrate at idle)
b. Sanding down the sharp edges of the tire with a belt sander.
